About Us

We write about the Scottish Highlands because we can't stop going there. This site is our attempt to share what we've learned — the good spots, the hard-won tips, and the places we probably shouldn't tell anyone about.

Roam Glade started in 2025 with a simple idea: the internet has plenty of Scotland travel guides, but most of them are either written by people who spent three days here five years ago, or they\'re AI-generated fluff that tells you the Fairy Pools are "a hidden gem."

We live in Scotland. We hike the trails, drive the single-track roads, get bitten by the midges, and spend our rainy weekends in bothies and pubs. Every guide on this site is written by someone who has actually been to the place they\'re writing about — usually multiple times, in multiple seasons, in varying states of preparedness.

What We Believe

Honest advice over marketing copy. We tell you when a popular attraction is overcrowded and not worth the queue. We tell you when a castle tour is overpriced. We tell you which month the midges will make you want to quit and go home.

Specific details over generic descriptions. "Stunning views" tells you nothing. "The car park fills by 9am in July and costs £6, bring coins because the machine doesn\'t take cards" — that\'s useful.

The outdoors is for everyone — but safety matters. You don\'t need to be a mountaineer to love the Highlands. But you do need a waterproof jacket and the sense to check the weather forecast. We try to make the practical stuff clear without being preachy.

How We Make Money

This site is free to read. We fund it through affiliate partnerships — if you book accommodation through Booking.com, reserve a tour via GetYourGuide, or rent a car through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we\'d genuinely recommend to a friend standing in our kitchen. Affiliate links are always clearly marked with a disclosure.

We also plan to run minimal, non-intrusive advertising through Google AdSense. No pop-ups. No auto-play videos. No ads that cover the content you\'re trying to read. We hate those as much as you do.

Who Writes This Stuff

Roam Glade is currently a small team of two — a writer-photographer based in Inverness who\'s logged more miles on the A82 than most taxi drivers, and a web developer who handles the technical side from Edinburgh. Between us we\'ve hiked every Munro mentioned on this site, camped in more bothies than we can count, and spent an embarrassing amount of money on waterproof jackets that all eventually leak.

We\'re not a faceless media company. We\'re not churning out 50 AI-generated articles a day. Every guide on this site took hours of writing and editing. Every recommendation comes from personal experience — we\'ve slept in the hotels, eaten in the pubs, and stood in the rain at the viewpoints we describe. If we haven\'t been there, we don\'t write about it.

Our Coverage

As of mid-2026, Roam Glade covers:

  • 17 destination guides — from the Isle of Skye to Ardnamurchan, every corner of the Highlands
  • 4 detailed itineraries — including the NC500 7-day road trip and the Edinburgh to Skye classic
  • 8 experience guides — hiking, whisky, castles, wildlife, and more
  • 7 practical planning guides — weather, budget, driving tips, packing lists
  • 16 journal articles — trip reports, comparisons, and honest advice you won\'t find in guidebooks

We add new content weekly and update existing guides whenever we revisit a location. If something changes — a car park introduces charges, a pub closes, a trail gets rerouted — we update the relevant page.

Work With Us

We\'re open to collaborations that make sense for our readers. If you run a Highland accommodation, tour company, or outdoor brand that aligns with our values, we\'d love to hear from you. We don\'t do paid links or sponsored posts that compromise our editorial independence — if we write about you, it\'s because we genuinely think our readers would benefit from knowing about you.

For press inquiries, partnership proposals, or just to say hello, email us at hello@roamglade.com or use the contact page.
